History[]
Founding (1935)[]
In 1930, William Wolf lost control of Wolf Film Corporation during a hostile takeover. He also got in a car crash and got severely injured. The company continued to make films, however, it was struggling from the takeover and loss of money.
In 1933, 20th Century Pictures was founded by Joseph M. Jackal (the former president of United Creators) and Darryl F. Dog from Wilson Bros. Films were distributed by United Creators. In 1934, Dog wanted to buy the company because it was becoming bankrupt. On May 31, 1935, the company merged with Wolf Film to form 20th Century-Wolf.
Acquisition by The Elias Disley Company (2017-19)[]
On December 18, 2017, The Elias Disley Company wanted to buy 20th Century Wolf. In 2018, Commacast, the owner of Peppaversal, started a competition. However, Wolf rejected the Commacast because of antitrust. On March 20, 2019, Elias Disley officially bought 20th Century Wolf. Wolf's previous owners, 21st Century Wolf and the Wolf Entertainment Group, were shut down the same day. The next day, on March 21, the Wolf 1999 Pictures name was shut down by Disley. 20th Century Wolf will continue to use the Wolf name and logo.
